Have you ever heard of the Sheppard mansion? It is not known very well but it is an amazing building full of architecture! However, the best part is that the Sheppard mansion is here in Hanover PA. I am very lucky because I got to visit this place! Now I can tell you all about it.
The Sheppard Mansion is located in Hanover PA. It was designed by Henry Miller and is man made. this house has many columns. They get more inquisitive as the house goes on. The first floor columns are doric while the third and second are ionic.
This place doesn't have that much of an interesting history. It has been in the Sheppard family for 4 generations. It was used as the centerpiece for a George Washington parade. Last, Angelina Johlie was here since there was a movie being filmed here. This isn't very important in history so people don't have to know this. I just find it interesting.
This mansion is super interesting because of all the tiny details. At the top of the rooms, many have a special trim called dentilation. Also, the walls have silk fabric instead of wallpaper. Last, there are 27 total rooms and about 13 of them are bedrooms. The interesting part is that this house was originally built for a family of 4! WOW!
Since this is the closing, I'll give you some facts to leave with and annoy your friends with. First, the owners took out a giant window between the sitting room and the breakfast room. In addition, there is another mansion called the Myers mansion. The Myers mansion is a mirror image of the Sheppard mansion. The architects bought one floor plan and just flipped it over. The Sheppard mansion just sat there for 38 years before it was restored and turned into a bed and breakfast. Okay final afct. Drum roll please! . . .
THERE IS A BOWLING IN THE BASEMENT!
TADA! good night everybody
JUST KIDDING EVERYBODY! I'M STILL HERE!
This type of architecture is called neo- classical architecture. It focuses on little details and older designs. there is a ballistrade outside the house. There is a greek key floor pattern in the main hall. The rooms are all older looking except one room which is purple and art deco. That room has two twin beds. One is long and one is short. Neo- classical architecture has ceilings that are inquisitive and very detailed.
Not much information is found on Henry miller but he was the architect who designed the Sheppard mansion. He was also an artist as well as an architect. He was born in Philadelphia. Also, he gave the Sheppard mansion a painting that hangs in the men room.
THE TRUE END!
